Chaplains are available for pastoral counseling onboard your vessel or at SCI’s Seafarers’ Center. SCI’s trained chaplains understand the challenges that every seafarer faces. We know that you are separated from their loved ones, family and friends for extended periods of time. You face the fear of accident and death, extreme loneliness, insecurity, inconvenience due to limited living space, and boredom from a monotonous lifestyle onboard ship.
SCI chaplains know that language barriers and complicated cross-cultural work relationships arise because a ship may be staffed by crewmembers from many different countries and cultures. Unscrupulous ship owners and officials from various jurisdictions can easily abuse a seafarer’s basic human rights.
SCI chaplains realize that even when you come back home after a long voyage at sea, things are rarely the way they were before you departed. Perhaps during your absence, a child may be born, children grow older and their personalities blossom and change, and spouses are weary with the duress of separation.
