Is your Church School or School Class looking for a service project? Consider making Christmas and Easter cards for seafarers and America’s river mariners that would be distributed by chaplains and volunteers of the Seamen’s Church Institute of New York & New Jersey. The handmade cards would be used for Christmas and Easter gifts given to seafarers arriving in the Port of New York & New Jersey and America’s river mariners along 2,200 miles of inland waterways from Pittsburgh to New Orleans and the Gulf Coast. We like the children to write whatever comes to mind — usually it is very endearing. Please let the children know that these mariners are far from their families for these holidays. They are lonely and especially missing their own children.
