Commandant Visits; Announces TWIC Change

May 2, 2008

Admiral Thad William Allen, Commandant of the United States Coast Guard, made his first visit to the Seamen’s Church Institute’s Paducah Center on May 2, 2008. The tour included an opportunity to interact with a training class in session, participate in a hands-on demonstration of the Institute’s simulator, and discuss inland waters training programs.

After the tour, Admiral Allen spoke to over 45 industry leaders in the SCI complex. The Commandant announced that the compliance date for the Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) program will be delayed until April 15, 2009.

The Rev. David Rider (SCI’s Executive Director), Eric Larsson (SCI’s Director of Maritime Education and Training) and Captain Greg Menke (Director of SCI’s Paducah Training Facility) were on hand to answer questions and talk about future plans.

“It was an honor to welcome the Commandant to our simulator training facility. Seamen’s Church Institute is proud to play a role in the continuing dialogue between government and industry,” said the Rev. David Rider.
