The Seamen’s Church Institute (SCI) releases an updated,
fourteen-minute video, highlighting the work and mission of the largest, most
comprehensive mariners’ agency in North America.
The video features industry leaders and mariners. They speak of the Institute and of global
commerce. “SCI makes a difference in the
lives of those who transport the goods of modern living,” says the Rev. David
M. Rider, SCI’s Executive Director, “and the video takes a look at the
different facets of supporting the industry and its hard-working people.”
An update of a DVD produced in 2006, the latest film
represents changes in the industry and at SCI, an agency evolving and adapting
to meet these new challenges. Narrator
and producer Gary Jobson of Jobson Sailing, also known as ESPN’s sailing
announcer, has put together the latest iteration of this informational
video. “We’re really pleased with the
way that it has come together,” Executive Director David
Rider said. “It’s an
interesting story, not only of SCI but of the way the industry functions and
relies and has historically relied on our support.”
The video is available online at seamenschurch.org, and
copies are also available in DVD format by request. “It’s our hope that those curious about what
SCI does and those across the world who benefit from the work of merchant
mariners will be informed and inspired to know and do more in support of our
work.”
