Port chaplains serve mariners of all cultures and races. We
meet strangers to our nation every day. As a result, we are deeply aware of the
stranger within us. We offer you and your parish this Bible Study so that you
can also welcome the stranger within and the one who arrives at your church’s
door.
The stranger that walks through your church door may be part
of your community yet a stranger to the liturgy or culture or even the language
of your Church. More and more people in our congregations lead nomadic lives
pursuing new jobs and economic possibilities. Finally, as our life
circumstances change, as we age or are confronted with crisis, we may encounter
“the stranger” within our own selves.
